Can my journal afford Journal Manager?
Journal Manager is priced to accommodate journals both large and small, and to make it possible for organization-sponsored journals on limited budgets to take advantage of on-line technology. We can work with individual journals to arrange flexible payment plans.
| Submissions | <= | 500: $1500 | |
| Submissions | > 500 | <= | 1000: $2500 |
| Submissions | >1000 | <= | 1500: $3250 ($750 per additional 1-500) |
After the initial year of operation - and perhaps even before then, most journals can expect a savings over their previous operating costs.
How difficult and time-consuming is the transition to an online system?
The JM staff will work with you to move active manuscripts to the current system, and to shift from your existing arrangement to Journal Manager. Whether you are currently using a database program, a traditional file system, or other automated system, we can import it into Journal Manager. On average, a conversion takes 1-5 days.
Won’t reviewers find it more difficult to submit reviews through this system? I don’t want to do anything to discourage their cooperation.
Journal Manager recognizes that obtaining fast, high quality reviews is one of the biggest challenges that journal editors face on an ongoing basis. For this reason, our system does not require reviewers to use passwords or visit a separate website in order to submit their reviews. Instead, when using Journal Manager your reviewers can email reviews as attachments or as email notes just as many reviewers already do using non-integrated systems.
How flexible is the system? Will my letters to authors and reviewers look as if they are generated by a machine?
No, absolutely not. As Editor you have complete control over the appearances of your correspondence. While you have the option of creating templates to help with standard parts of common types of correspondence in acceptance letters, rejection letters, requests for reviews and so forth, each of these also can be tailored to the individual recipient by adding or subtracting any content you wish.
Computers can go down. Won’t I still need to keep extensive hard copies of all of these documents just in case?
Journal Manager is hosted on a server which along with others, forms a crucial infrastructure at The Ohio State University Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR). All servers are connected to an IBM Storage Area Network (SAN) solution which is a large array of redundant hot-swappable hard drives. The room that houses the CHRR infrastructure is secured, controlled and monitored at all times. We realize how critical the information is for the operation of your journal, therefore all JM databases are backed up every 10 minutes.
What kind of support is available if the system is confusing to me or I cannot figure out how to do something?
Because it is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, Journal Manager support seldom hears from its editors after the initial transition stage. But should you have any problems, or need a component added to the system due to your journal’s special needs, a contact person is available to answer your questions and address your concerns. In fact, many of our current features have been recommended by editors.
